The Story Of Meng & Grim II: A D&D-Themed Story

In the forgotten realms, a land that stretched as far as the material plane allowed it, there emerged II heroes driven by a lust for glory and peace. the first of these II heroes was Grim, a towering human barbarian as tall as his tribe's totem poles. he was renown for his great strength and exceptional endurance. he gained the name of a barbarian one night. he was fighting a bear, grappling with it with no weapon. but the bear's claws and fangs did nor harm Grim, for he was in a battle rage, the fiercest a barbarian could be.

the second of these II heroes was Meng Mei, a sneaky and convincing human rogue. he could change the tide of any conversation, and he could convince you of anything, but all without lying.

these II heroes lived in a town called Bryn Shander. Grim liked it because it was home to the greatest blacksmith in the land, who forged mighty axes with ease. Meng liked it because it had a liars' club, which met on the third Wednesday of every month, and it has never done that. one night while everyone was asleep, Meng and Grim couldn't sleep. there were giant eagles screaming outside. whenever Grim drifted off into sleep, he saw images of Bryn Shander engulfed in a fiery tornado, and he woke up in a burning sweat. whenever Meng drifted off, he saw images of his long lost love, and he woke up sobbing. thus, the stench of sweaty barbarian and miserable rogue filled the room, adding to the already-uncomfortable atmosphere of the small room. the sixth time grim nodded off, he saw the town engulfed in flames, but he also saw five men with magical flames spreading from their outstretched hands. one turned toward grim and said "see what your beloved town has become. a fiery wasteland in the frozen tundra." he tilted his head. his eyes were made of pure white fire. "you'll fight me, I know. you and your magical rogue friend." the fire giant blasted fire at grim, and his body turned to ashes. "WAKE UP!" yelled Meng. "what in the material plane were you dreaming about? you screamed." Grim relayed his visions to Meng. Meng pondered this, then said "so I'm supposed to have powers. that's odd." before Grim could answer, a horn sounded. Grim and Meng rushed to the window. ten riders were making their way toward the town, fire blasting from the hands of one, another sounding a horn. wasting no time, Meng and Grim grabbed their gear and raced outside. the riders had drawn swords and spread chaos all over town. the town hall was on fire, and several of the houses were already burned down. Meng said, "I'm going to tell you something. I-I can wield magic." Grim didn't shout. he didn't taunt or laugh, but instead said, "that's great! you should be proud of yourself." Meng stumbled back. he said, "no. y-you don't understand. I don't wield just any magic, but chaos magic." Grim said, "you're still my friend. that's never going to change." Meng looked anxious to change the subject. "whatever. we have a town to save." Grim nodded. "let's go." they charged into battle. when grim heard 'chaos magic,' he thought it would just be like the spells tieflings had. the reality was much more brutal. with a snap of his fingers, meng had made two of the fire giants crumble to ashes, and sent a third one on a trip through the lower planes. he had cooked up a roasted fire giant thigh and sent another to the underworld. Grim, on the other hand, went into a rage, swinging his greataxe in a hurricane of destruction. but alas, in the final moments of the battle, he got knocked to the ground with a blow from a Morningstar. before the rider could raise his sword, he crumbled to ashes. Meng stood behind him, an unusual sword held in his left hand. grim got up, and thanked him. he then used the might of the bear to throw all of the fire giants out to sea. the villagers had woken up by then. they looked at the two heroes questioningly, and Meng and Grim explained. they then rebuilt the town. Grim used the might of the bear to carry over platforms of bricks. Meng thief-proofed the town hall. thus, the town was saved, and Meng and Grim lived the life of an adventurer.
