Paelias & Meng I: The Enchanted Forest
in the forgotten realms, a land that stretched as far as the material plane allowed it, there emerged two heroes destined to be the saviors of the forgotten realms. the first of these heroes was Paelias Naïlo, an elven ranger who was a master of archery and was known for his sneakiness. for he was a gloom stalker, a master of stealth and infiltration. he wielded a longbow and two shortswords, gifted by his druid mentor. the second was meng mei, a sneaky human rogue who was very smart. he wielded a rapier and had two daggers as backup.
the adventure started when, out of the blue, people started disappearing into a forest covered in perpetual fog. Paelias and Meng heard about this unfortunate turn of events, and decided to investigate. they reached the enchanted forest by morning. they walked into the swirling cloak of mist. they reappeared on the other side of the gloom. it was still foggy, but less so that the heroes could see more in front of them. drapes of fog hung in the air. mushrooms dotted the landscape. and a giant living mushroom charged toward them.
paelias backpedaled rapidly as he knocked an arrow to his bow. he let loose, the arrow wizzing toward the mushroom and burying itself in the mushroom's forehead. Meng darted toward the mushroom, poking it with his rapier. the mushroom inhaled through its mouth, then exhaled, creating a tornado that swept up multiple leaves and barreled toward Paelias. the elf simply stepped into a shadow and melted into it. he reappeared behind the mushroom, stabbing it with his shortswords. the mushroom fell. as it disintegrated, it dropped a glowing ball of light. Paelias had seen this before. he yelled, "close your eyes!" and turned his head away as the ball exploded with light. when he looked back, the ball was gone. the ground where it had laid was still smoking. they trekked on.
at about nine o'clock, the heroes found the footprints of a mushroom. they followed them... into a mighty temple. they scaled the limestone walls and came up top. they decided to lay an ambush. the mushrooms reeled back in surprise as paelias let an arrow fly straight into the chest of their commander. he drew his shortswords and started slashing at two more. Meng, on the other hand, darted in and out of the shadows, striking his enemies and leaving his blades streaked with mushroom goo. at last, Paelias striked down the last one. they walked into the throne room. they battled the emperor. paelias ambushed him from the shadows, striking him with his shortswords and leaving parting gifts of arrows for him. Meng struck him with his rapier, leaving his blade streaked (yet again) with mushroom goo. at last, Paelias struck him down with a mighty arrow launched from his exquisite bow. they had completed the quest! they returned to the village, knowing they had saved the enchanted forest and everything in it.
